Algae are an ideal addition to the vegan and vegetarian diet due to their high protein content, which makes it a rich source of nutrients for those striving for an animal protein free diet. In simple terms, algae are structured plants that photosynthesize and thrive in water. In Asia, more specifically Japan, algae have been consumed for thousands of years, and experts see it as one of the reasons their life expectancy is so high. At Alver, we process microalgae into a superfood, with the main goal of ensuring that everyone benefits from the high health, and ecological benefits of this primeval way of life. Because microalgae are even more sustainable than plant based proteins, as production is linear and no conversion or extraction is required. Microalgae naturally contain around 50% protein.
